How To Get My Instagram Url

Instagram was the first popular social media app primarily intended for portable device (phone, tablet) usage. Whilst the Instagram desktop website is stripped of some important functionalities, the phone app, both on iOS and Android, offers an extensive range of features, some of which are nowhere to be found on the desktop version.

How Do You Find Your Instagram URL?

For the most part, you won't need URLs on Instagram. However, there are times when you'll need to deal with them. Here's how to find, send, and manage URLs on Instagram.

Finding Your Instagram URL

Let's start with the desktop version. Finding your Instagram URL in a browser (desktop or mobile) is fairly simple. Just navigate to your profile by clicking/tapping the profile icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. This will take you to your profile. To copy your profile's URL, simply navigate to the address bar, select the content and copy it. Now, paste it where required.

So, you could probably say that finding the URL to your profile is relatively easy on desktop. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people don't use Instagram on their computers. If they happen to prefer checking the IG feed from a desktop unit, they'll most likely use a desktop app. This is almost identical to the mobile app and features most mobile app functionalities (chat, for instance).

You just can't find your Instagram URL using the app. However, the URL pattern for Instagram profiles is as straightforward as they come. Every profile features the Instagram URL and your literal username combined. So, your Instagram profile URL would be https://www.instagram.com/username.

In an instance where you want to send your profile URL to someone or paste it in a field on a website, the easiest way to go would be using the website version of Instagram.

Post URLs

Instagram has made sharing photos and videos very simple – below every single post on Instagram, there's an arrow icon, indicating the share feature. If you're on the mobile or desktop app, tapping this icon will open the option to send the post to someone directly. You can even select multiple profiles to send them separately. Most of the time, this is how you'll be sending posts to other users.

That being said, you may want to send the post in question to somewhere outside Instagram. Maybe you want a Facebook Messenger group to see the photo and maybe you need the URL for an online forum. Luckily, by following the three dots, located in the top corner of every post, you'll see the Copy Link option. Click or tap it, depending on whether you're using the desktop or mobile app.

This will automatically copy the URL of the post in question. Now, simply paste it wherever you need to and that's pretty much it.

Finally, if you're using the browser to access Instagram, finding and copying a post URL is as simple as copying any other URL online. Simply click the photo in question and select and copy the URL from the address bar. This works even if the post opens in the pop-up window.

Alternatively, by following the Instagram Direct icon (when in browser) you'll see a list of share options that includes Share to Facebook, Share to Messenger, Share to Twitter, Share via Email, and Copy Link.

Getting Someone Else's Profile URL

You may want to send a URL to someone else's profile. On the browser version, it's fairly simple. Go to the profile in question, navigate to the address bar and copy the URL. Then, paste it wherever you want it sent.

There are two ways of sharing a profile URL using the Instagram app.

The first way is Instagram-centered. Once on the profile page, navigate to the three dots icon in the upper-right corner and you'll see a list pop up. Towards the bottom, you'll see the Share This Profile option. By tapping this entry, a list will pop up, much like the one you see when directly sharing a post or a story. Select the person(s) you want to send the profile to.

Alternatively, if you want to send someone's profile to a source outside of Instagram, navigate to the above-mentioned three dots. Only this time, select Copy Profile URL from the list. Now, you can paste the URL anywhere you want to.

Sharing Outside URLs on Instagram

Using the Instagram's chat feature, Instagram Direct, you can share any link that you'd like, just as you would on any other messenger app. Simply copy the link in question and paste it into an Instagram Direct chat. However, if you want to add a link to your profile description, you won't be able to use it if you paste it in your Bio (it won't show as a link to other users and they won't be able to copy it). This is what the Website field is for, so carefully consider your linking tactic.

Adding a clickable link to an Instagram post isn't possible on regular ones. The link that you paste to the description won't be clickable and your followers won't be able to copy it using the app. The only way to add a clickable link to a post is by running it as an Instagram promotion. Therefore, carefully consider which posts you're promoting.

When it comes to stories, things are a bit simpler. Well, if you have 10,000 or more followers, that is. To add a clickable link to your story, you have the Swipe Up option in the story customization menu. This option only becomes available when you reach 10,000 followers.

Instagram and URLs

As you can see, Instagram is a bit weird about URLs in general. Some URLs are easy to share and copy, while others (like your own URL) don't come with a simple "copy" option. If you don't think you'll ever need to know about URLs on Instagram, you've got another thing coming. It's better to educate yourself and have this knowledge available on disposal, down the line.
